Loose Links: Nate Dogg, RZA, Beastie Boys And Eminem
RZA lands a role in Showtime's "Californication," DubCNN pays tribute to Nate Dogg and we check out retrospectives on the Beastie Boys and Eminem.
Like most of you, we’re both recovering from a vicious round of thunderstorms and preparing for the next one. April is no joke, and we’ve been getting rained on harder than a King of Diamonds stripper when Rick Ross is in town. As always, a little inclement weather never stops us from sharing the interesting and random stuff we find trolling the Internet.
“All My Life”
With all the competing and macho posturing in Hip Hop, it becomes rare that someone honors a peer. We’re not talking about those forced collaborations that get e-mailed back and forth, but just honestly giving it up for a fellow emcee. It’s unfortunate that because of the circumstances surrounding Nate Dogg’s death we’re getting it now, but DubCNN nonetheless did one hell of a job rounding up a host of Nate’s contributors and friends for one last tip of the hat.

“Bobby Did It”
Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA is arguably just as comfortable on camera as he is behind a mic or a drum sequencer. In addition to filming his directorial debut, The Man With The Iron Fists, “The Abbot” will reportedly have a reoccurring role on the Showtime series, “Californication.” According to TVLine.com, RZA will appear in the upcoming fifth season of the series as a character named Apocalypse. We’re not exactly sure how that fits into Hank Moody’s funny and often perverted universe, but it should definitely be worth checking out.

“The Sounds Of Science”
Most Hip Hop fans are still bugging out over the Beastie Boys star-studded, long-form video, “Make Some Noise.” If the thought of revisiting “Fight For Your Right To Party” also has you feeling nostalgic, New York magazine has a great oral history of Licensed To Ill. Everyone from Run DMC to Molly Ringwald gives their account of how a now-classic project came together.

“The Way I Am”
In honor of Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP” being certified diamond—that would be 10 million copies sold—Complex.com put together a list of the 100 Best Eminem songs. Where would you rank Em’s collaborations with the likes of Skylar Grey and Rihanna? Good question. Head on over, as Gabriel Alvarez runs down the rankings.
